Project SEARCH Autism Enhancement Graduation 2018!
As the 2019 class of employment training interns begins this fall at Project SEARCH Autism Enhancement, we thought everyone would enjoy this video of the previous year’s graduation. Note the pride as these graduates share their accomplishments. We, too, are proud. 9 Interns, 9 Graduates, 9 Jobs. Here’s to a great 2019 for the new interns, and continued success for the Class of 2018!
At NEXT for AUTISM we believe that young people on the autism spectrum can look forward to productive futures and meaningful employment when trained and supported according to their strengths and challenges. Our Project SEARCH Autism Enhancement internship program, run by Arc of Westchester at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital in White Plains, is one of several employment programs across the country that utilizes the unique autism-specific employment training package. We developed the package in partnership with Project SEARCH at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center, and invited the TEACCH Autism Program at the University of North Carolina to work with us on incorporating autism-specific protocols, teaching, and assessment tools into the training framework. The resulting Project SEARCH-Autism Enhancement (PS-AE) training package has been made available for adoption by institutions internationally, and is accompanied by the support of an autism program specialist. To date, it has been adopted by Drexel University, the Y.A.L.E. Schools, the University of California at Irvine, and the University of Washington in Seattle.
