WHO THEY ARE
2022 GRANT IMPACT
- 140 artisans with autism were served and supported
- 70% of all participants gained employment in the arts
- 70% BIPOC
The Create4U program brings autistic young adults together in a safe environment, allowing for exploration of their artistic passions. In this setting, participants not only build lasting friendships but have reported improvement in physical and mental health from having peers and autistic adult leaders to work with. Thanks to the hands-on job training in the art industry, 70% of all participants gained employment in the arts.
Originally designed as a weekly drop-in program, Create4U has added transitional housing for autistic young adults. Understanding the complexity and difficulty for young people living outside of their family home, this program adds the support and education needed for increasing independence and safety.
140 artisans (musicians, game designers, authors, actors and filmmakers) with autism, ranging in age from five to seventy-one, were served and were supported in the creation of their albums, games, books, and films. Production and publication efforts will continue over the next five years, building on the momentum earned by the NEXT for AUTISM grant.
