NEXT IMPACT: Shepherd’s Way

From the very beginning, NEXT recognized the immense potential in Shepherd’s Way's intensive, human-centered approach. Thanks to the latest grant funding, Shepherd’s Way has been able to directly support 11 autistic men while also extending community engagement opportunities to an additional 20 individuals. Through this program, Shepherd’s Way fosters and cultivates a continuous growth in essential skills such as communication, community integration, self-care, health, and safety, among others.

As a result of this support, participants are steadily progressing towards their ultimate goal of achieving independence and active engagement within their communities, leading purpose-driven lives. This progress has paved the way for the graduation of current participants from the career development program, opening up spots for new individuals on the waiting list. With this milestone, participants are now equipped to transition to independent living, marking a significant step forward in their journey.

Today, Shepherd's Way is operating 3 homes in Wichita, KS and 1 home in Waco Texas, as well as operating a career development program that focuses on training and curriculum to develop and grow executive functioning, social, and other soft skills, while building employment skills and exploring career paths as a stepping stone to independent living.

THE RESULT

• Launched one additional community, which will serve 1-4 program participants
• Reviewed and updated service model and delivery, which led to an additional step in the model that is highly focused on career development.
• Produced performance data on the impact of service model using evidence-based practices.
