A Conversation with Carolyn About Voting
On the Eve of Election Day, NEXT for AUTISM team member Abigayle Jayroe connected with Carolyn, a dedicated voter, to discuss her experiences at the polls and what voting means to her. If you're voting today, don’t forget that NEXT’s Day of Voting Resource is here to support you—everyone deserves to have their voice heard.
ABBY: Hi, I am Abby Jayroe. What's your name?
CAROLYN: My name is Carolyn.
ABBY: Have you ever voted before Carolyn?
CAROLYN: Yes, I've voted before and I am voting tomorrow (November 5th).
ABBY: Does anyone at Arc* or in your family help you vote?
CAROLYN: No, I do it myself.
ABBY: Do you feel voting is different this year?
CAROLYN: Yes. When i was younger they used to vote on machines, but now you mark who the candidate is you want to vote for and they put it in the machine.
ABBY: Is there anything you would like to see change, to make voting easier or more accessible for people?
CAROLYN: I think that they should have more aisles for handicapped people to vote.
ABBY: Why do you think it's important to vote?
CAROLYN: I think it's important to see who the candidates are and to vote. Especially this year, of course, because you are voting for president.
ABBY: I agree. And I'm appreciative of you taking the time to speak with me and make your voice heard.
