David Van Buskirk is the owner of D&L Nursery in Ocklawaha, Florida, named for him and his late wife Linda. D&L has been in operation for over 25 years, no small accomplishment! In addition to their love and knowledge of bonsais, D&L’s success also stems from their connection to people and community.
Each year for the past eight years, D&L has had a “Customer Appreciation Day”, which gathers their bonsai community on “World Bonsai Day” (2nd Saturday in May), where they gather for all things bonsai. In addition, they hold raffles and auctions for trees, with the proceeds benefiting a new non-profit each year. This year D&L chose NEXT for AUTISM.
David selected NEXT this year to honor his grandson, Joe, and great grandson, Caleb, who are both autistic. While Joe and Caleb are both still young, David wants to support building programs and acceptance for when they are older. When children age out of school-aged services, the options for programs become more challenging. That’s where NEXT comes in; we are laser-focused on building national programs that enhance the lives of autistic adults.
“I like that NEXT for AUTISM is focused on programs and services for autistic adults,” shared David. “It’s important to build for Joe and Caleb’s future now, so they have all the opportunities to live fulfilling and productive lives.”
David and D&L Nursery raised an amazing $3,274 for NEXT. Thanks to David and everyone who supported D&L’s Customer Appreciation Day to benefit NEXT for AUTISM this year.
