It's full sail for autistic adults, thanks to Spectrum Sailing.
WHO THEY ARE
Spectrum Sailing offers autistic individuals free, three-day sailing camps , designed with inclusion, safety, and fun at their core. Using small groups and hands-on instruction, participants not only learn how to sail, but also build confidence, teamwork, and trust in themselves and others.
THE RESULTS
- 240 autistic participants across the lifespan.
- Hosted camps in urban, suburban, and rural communities nationwide.
THE IMPACT
Over the course of the grant year, Spectrum Sailing focused on expanding access, strengthening quality, and building long-term community capacity for inclusive recreation. The result was a year of meaningful growth—both on and off the water.
- Hosted 12 full-capacity sailing camps across the country, serving 240 autistic individuals
- Expanded into three new strategic locations, increasing reach in communities with limited recreational access
- Trained 120+ instructors and volunteers, exceeding the original goal of 75
- Launched a new Autism & Water Safety Training curriculum
- Distributed 120 U.S. Coast Guard–approved life jackets through hospital partnerships to reinforce water safety beyond camp
