Spectrum Sailing provides maritime education, programming, and outreach for autistic individuals. Our free camps provide opportunities for skill development, social interaction, and confidence building. Sailing is our platform to positively impact the physical, mental, and social health of our participants.

Spectrum Sailing uses sailing as a tool for personal growth. Through small-group instruction and structured activities, participants develop teamwork, communication, and self-trust while navigating a dynamic environment. Time on the water also supports sensory regulation, problem-solving, and resilience—skills that transfer into daily life, school, work, and relationships. 

During the grant year, Spectrum Sailing served 240 autistic participants through 12 full-capacity sailing camps hosted in urban, suburban, and rural communities nationwide. The organization also expanded into three new strategic locations, increasing access to inclusive recreation in areas with limited opportunities.

Safety is a core priority. Spectrum Sailing trained 120+ instructors and volunteers, exceeding its original goal, and launched a dedicated Autism & Water Safety Training curriculum. In partnership with hospitals, the organization also distributed 120 U.S. Coast Guard–approved life jackets, reinforcing water safety beyond the camp experience. 

Spectrum Sailing’s work is supported by grants from NEXT for AUTISM, made possible through signature events, individual donors, and corporate partners. Donor support allows Spectrum Sailing to offer programs at no cost to families, expand to new communities, and continue building a national model for inclusive recreation that strengthens confidence, friendships, and independence for autistic individuals.
